The Origins
The CPS Professional Team was founded in 2018 in Baronissi, near Salerno, by Clemente Cavaliere, former professional cyclist, and Franco D’Auria, owner of CPS Project and Manufacturing. The team was created with the goal of building a direct bridge between young talents from Southern Italy and the world of professional cycling.
The First Season
From its very first season, CPS Professional Team established itself as an ambitious reality in the Italian Junior cycling scene. The team became a satellite team of D’Amico Utensilnord, a Continental team with an Italian license, offering young athletes a structured growth path.
The 2018 junior roster included ten athletes: Gennaro Acanfora, Antonio Carenza, Mario D’Arco, Francesco De Cicco, Salvatore De Rosa, Salvatore Ebarone, Mario Iannone, Francesco Leuci, Leonardo Montevecchio, and Arturo Pegna. The sports directors were Pasquale Santoro and Maurizio Caposella.
Recognition and Support
The project immediately received great support from the cycling world. Paolo Bettini, Olympic champion and two-time world champion, and Vincenzo Nibali, winner of all three Grand Tours, sent video messages of encouragement to the young riders. The team also chose to honor the memory of Michele Scarponi by placing the image of “Frankie”, the parrot who often accompanied the Marche champion during his training rides, on the jersey.
Our Mission
“In the South we have few resources, but we have a great desire to organize activities and events to bring out the potential of the cyclists of this land. We are trying, knowing that we have great opportunities on our side” — these were Clemente Cavaliere’s words at the team presentation.
Today, CPS Professional Team continues to grow, carrying forward the values of sacrifice, passion, and professionalism, training tomorrow’s champions on the roads of Campania and Italy.
